Crochet seems to be a fairly recent needlecraft.
That is if you can call 200 years fairly recent. But for historical needlecraft purposes crochet really is the new kid on the block. There are no known examples prior to 1800. So our Grandmother's were really trendy when they spent their time crocheting doilies and pillowcase trim.
